"But we do it differently: we challenged perfumer Euan McCall to create a tobacco fragrance with all the rich, deep facets of the tobaccos we know and love, but to give it the BeauFort ‘twist’. This was to imagine that a package of tobacco leaves with all their fermented, honeyed beauty was to be left in a wooden box at the bottom of the sea for many many years, infused with salt, and the kind of character only time and tide will allow.

THE WEARING EXPERIENCE

Top: (Star) Anise, Cardamom, Saffron, Cherry Mead, Frankincense & Blackcurrant absolute 

Heart: Juniper, Clove, Orris, Myrrh & Damson

Base: Tobacco Absolute, Seaweed, Oakwood, Ambergris, Guaiacwood, Birch, Oakmoss, Cedarwood, Vetiver, Labdanum, Gurjun & Cypriol.

Perfumer: Euan McCall 

Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Parfum, Tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, Acetyl Cedrene, Anethole, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Cedrus Atlantica Oil/Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus Oil, Citronellol, Pinene, Beta-Caryophyllene, Limonene, Linalyl Acetate, Eugenyl Acetate, Rose Ketones, Terpineol, Citral, Geranyl Acetate, Terpinolene (70% Alcohol).

THE BEAUFORT STORY

Founded in 2013 by musician Leo Crabtree, BeauFort London was informed by early experiences at sea and a very British obsession with the elements. Initially, the brand was a vehicle for only one product: a handmade moustache wax in a billet aluminium case – a response to poorly executed male grooming products. In the space where craft and curiosity collided, BeauFort London discovered its true calling: fragrance as narrative. Fragrance as history. Fragrance as force.

The name itself — BeauFort — comes from the Beaufort Scale of wind force, devised by Naval Officer Sir Francis Beaufort in 1805. A framework for measuring what cannot quite be controlled. A fitting metaphor for a house that has never sought consensus.

PER FUMUM
The word perfume derives from the Latin per fumum
— through smoke.

After delving into the history of scent-making, Leo resolved that BeauFort’s fragrances would be built literally on this etymology: harnessing the many olfactory facets of smoke — gunpowder, tar, incense, charred wood, salt-scorched rope — to create singular works that seek to evoke memories both real and apparitional.

These are not fragrances designed to please. They are designed to provoke; to cast light on forgotten moments, to carry fragments of history on the wind.
